Effortless ways to dress for a Halloween Party

Effortless ways to dress for a Halloween Party

I first came across the concept of Halloween from watching American movies while growing up. Secretly I wished my parents would play dress up with me and go trick or treating so I could get a huge stash of sweet treats. In South Africa growing up in an Indian community ,Halloween was not something we did. According to mum and gran it was the night demon spirits came out to play. Not too far from the truth but nevertheless Halloween did not exist for me.
Halloween
Before ,I go on with the fashion tips and ideas. I need to tell you how much I dislike horror movies ,bugs and anything haunted. I am a big scary cat ! There I said it. Once I watched a horror movie and slept the entire week with the lights on all night in my flat as I was afraid.
On moving to London ,little kids would come knocking on my door on Halloween asking for treats all dressed up. Stores were filled with decorations and sweets especially for Halloween. Costume parties were very big and I was not too keen to actually dress up as a scary monster. And then I found out that I did not need to. No you dont need to look like a Zombie Bride or a Bunny Rabbit from Mean Girls but you can look rather glam.
The lovely folk at http://www.fairmont.com gave me the inspiration to create this post for looking amazing and not scary. Thanks team.
Tips for Halloween Costumes :

  1. Wear black, generally I use a black dress as a base for my dress up. And bonus points as black makes me look slimmer.
  2. Get a fancy mask to add to your outfit. I have a few fancy feathered and glittered masks. I love these and they are not scary. Perfect addition to your black base. I once went as a Pirate, all black a plastic sword and an eye patch.
  3. Adding a cape especially a red ones makes you a SuperHero instantly or Red Riding Hood.
  4. Feather Boas perfect to add a splash of colour and fun to your costume. They are fairly cheap and can be found in most party outlete.
  5. Bling in the form of a Tiara always looks great and some statement jewelery can transform that black dress into a Princess at Halloween.

6. Headpieces are always fun especially with feathers and stones.
So dressing up for Halloween doesnt not have to be scary or cost you a fortune. You can use things you have and work with your wardrobe to create a great outfit. Below are images of some of my dress up looks at Costume parties which can very easily be used for Halloween.
