I first came across this local brand when I won a voucher from them at an event.Island Lily is am online store currently based in Cape Town.They have a variety of items on sale that change with the season and buying trips.I used my voucher to buy a gorgeous Genuine Leather  handbag from them with my voucher.All the bloggers who attended the #SpiceGoddessEvent last year were gifted beautiful scarves from this generous brand.So curious me wanted to know more about the brand and how it started.
Alka the owner of Island Lily shared this with me : “Eight years ago, my partner Jame and I went to Mauritius on holiday. And being the romantic that he is he asked me out on a ‘date’ one evening and arranged with hotel manager that he can get dressed in a separate room and fetch me from our room for our ‘date’. Arriving at my room to get ready there was the most beautiful dress lying on my bed with pair of sandals – I fell in love with the brightly coloured dress. After returning from our holiday and hanging up the dress in between the dull colours of clothing in my wardrobe I knew that I wanted to create a range of brightly coloured clothing that will make you feel like you are on holiday every day! And so Island Lily began …” Such an awesome start for the brand and in my favourite holiday location.
1. What is your core business?
Our core business is to create beauty in our customers lives by offering a piece that is unique and easy wearing.
2. They key is having a unique product or service – what is your unique part?
 
There are two factors that makes Island Lily unique –
1.  we are not a high fashion brand, but concentrate more on comfort and classic styles.  Our items you can easily wear to the beach but just by adding a pair of sandals and a flower to your hair you can go for cocktails in the same outfit.
2. Our fabrics – we only use natural fabrics, cotton, linnen or silk no synthetics
3. Why start your own business?
A lot of people have the idea in their mind that if you have your own boss, you can relax and don’t have to work so hard, but it is just the opposite – you work so much harder and hardly have time in the beginning for much else, but seeing the excitement and delight when a customer loves your product makes it all worth while.
4. What are the difficulties running your own business?
Cash flow has always been my biggest challenge, because production takes up to 60 days you only start seeing money coming in after 90 days of the design process.
5. In 5 years time where do you want to see your business…..
I would love to see Island Lily in all the Hotel boutiques in every Island Holiday destination – locally and Internationally.
